MUSIC MAGAZINE MASTHEAD IDEAS

Magazine Names

krissKross
krisskrxss
Exchange
CRZY
Neverless
Bounce
Striked
Reflection
Ivy
UNO
OI
Passion

At first my magazine was going to be called 'Exchange' but after further research I soon realised that this is already a name of a magazine.

The music magazine that I decided to produce is going to be called KrissKross. The reason I have decided to call it this is because generally "crisscross" means to form a pattern or to go from one side to the other then meet again, this applies to my magazine because the genre is popular music and by this it means songs in the charts weather that be rap, hi-hop or pop, people reading the magazine will prefer one of those to the other but in the end there reading the same magazine so are the same at the end of reading it. I changed the "C" to "K" just so my magazine would be unique and stand out. The magazine will be vibrant and will include interviews, pictures and the newest songs for people to enjoy. My magazine will be unique because my target audience is teenagers but I can also apply it to young adults also because the artists that are featured will be played on the radio which adults listen to in there cars.

Indie magazine front cover analysis

This genre is Indie which is different to mine as mine is pop, This magazine compared to Billboard is very minimalistic , its got no big writing on it or sub heading but its very effective and eye catching, whee as Billboard have a lot of bold writing and sub heading on there in order to draw he reader in. The mast head is in Bold white writing and it placed in the top middle and not over all thirds which is different to billboard as they have there masthead mostly at the top which covers all three with colors in between some of there letters, this gives this indie magazine its own look and style. Its got one pull quote which will effectively draw the reader in, the quote does not really explain anything, it leaves he reader in suspense almost as to why "the touch of the untouchable rocks star are over". In contrast Billboard and Indie magazine are very different but both have there own style and uniqueness.

Brand Idedntity and Values

Brand Identity and values

From my music magazine I want it to be able to be sold in most shops and for my magazine to look up to date with the other magazines that ere out for example Q, Billboard, NME, Rolling stones and Vibe. I would use these as my influence for my magazine because there the most popular music magazines out now that have all artists on there, also it looks interesting and these magazines give you an insight into the artists life and you don’t  normally get to see that as you only no their music so it helps you connect more to these artists who have made some of your favourite songs.

I want my magazine brand to be known by everyone especially teens and young adults, I want people to hear the name and automatically think of the logo so I need my logo to be unique, fresh and quit formal, my overall magazine will be both formal and informal so it will be informal the fact that as whoever is reading the magazine has an interest in the POP genre my magazine can talk like the no the but it will be presented formally with the layout of the magazine being overall the same so the masthead, main image and text all set out formally.

My magazine will focus on mainly music, so what’s the weeks top 20 and new songs that have just came out, I will also include interviews from artists and also quizzes about the artists to see how well people no there favourite artist or band.  Down to the genre of my magazine which is POP my audience mainly will have a good social life and live in an area where there are lots of things to do for example go shopping or go out with there friends.

Tarfget Audience

Target Audience

My music magazine is going to be on popular music that are in the charts and artists who are being talked about the most right now because a lot of people are interested in this music and a lot of people like me can relate to pop music, my Pop magazine will appeal to people who like artists like Justin Bieber, Kanye West, Beyoncé and Fifth Harmony. I am going to take inspiration from magazines like Billboard and Q as they also focus on POP music and their target audience are the same as mine. My magazine will appeal to teenagers and young adults who range from 16 – 20 and a gender of both male and female.

The artists I am focusing my Music magazine on are also fashion icons for both male and female who want to dress like them. So my audience more than likely shop at high street stores and designer shops like Topshop, River Island, Marc Jacobs and Ralph Lauren but also some of these artists have their own clothing line for example Kanye West has his line “Yeezy” and “Pablo” so people would probably buy clothes and shoes from them too.

The people that will be interested in my magazine are people that have an interest in social media like twitter, snapchat and Instagram who are up to date with what these artists are doing and what new music is out so I will make sure to include the week’s top 20 charts as they would be interested in seeing this. I am also going to include exclusive interviews from these artists as it makes my magazine unique as these interviews have not been seen before so people would want to see what their favourite artist/bands have been up to.

Evaluation of school magazine

Q- Who would be the audience for your media project?
The age that I would think would be right for my school magazine would be 11-18 , this is purely because the students that come to this school and sixth form are between these ages and will be the ones benefiting from the magazine and the ones who will enjoy it as it has all school information on  there and topics about music and fashion which these age ranges are interested in. I made my magazine appealing to the students by using bright colour so it catches there eye and by using images so it looks fun and is interesting to look at.

What have you been taught about technologies form the process of constructing this product?
Whilst creating this magazine I have used many new different websites and was able to learn many more skills through this. When I first started using Adobe Fireworks I had no clue how to use it as I had always used work, as I carried on using it I got more used to it and I just kept on trying out new things with it to improve my skills. Once it came to creating my final school magazine I was completely confident with using fireworks and I preferred using this than word.

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of school magazines?
My final school magazine uses, develops and challenges the forms and conventions of a typical school magazine through the way I have for example created my masthead, it is big, bold and is in black and red which represents the school colours and stands out, also its unique to have 2 different colours on one mast head with the back ground behind the works "brooks news" as red and black. My main image is of a student, in a library reading a book which represents a situation you would be in at school, this is good quality as I took it on  a good camera, its common to have a main image on the front of a magazine to engage the audience. To challenge the conventions of school magazines I have used around 4-5 pictures on my contents page which from my research I found that not many school magazines do this, down to this i feel like it makes my magazine a little more unique than the others and makes it stand out

Final school Contents Page

With my contents page I wanted to make it look as interesting and as simple as possible. I put the masthead at the top so it makes it look more professional and so it stands out, I put pictures in so it looks more eye catching to the reader with the numbers of the pages you will be able to find these pictures and the information with it next to them so it can show the kinds of things that each title is about. Underneath the pictures I put what is featured in the magazine with page numbers so people no what they want tread and can find it easily, I made the colour of the text pink so it stands out and makes it look more interesting.

School Magazine cover

For my school magazine I wanted to make it look as interesting as possible. My masthead is black and white which stands out and represents the colours of the school. Above it I put a statement saying "outstanding from Ofsted" which pulls the reader in and makes them want to read why exactly the school got outstanding. the top right hand corner I put a star burst pug in to attract the reader but if they want to no more they have to look inside, I made it white and red around the blue righting so it goes with the colour theme but the blue writing stands out so it shows importance. The subheadings are in pink. I also put a picture on with a subheading about prom king and queen in bright yellow bold writing which also draws the reader in.
The main image is of a student reading a book, I placed it on the right hand side of the magazine so I could put taglines around it. She's reading a book and she is looking down at the book which shows she's learning and it also shows she's not directly in the article she's just a face for it. At the bottom there is a banner with more things people can find inside which may appeal to a wider audience.

Thumbnails/ photogaphy for school magazine

These are the pictures I took as  practice for my school front cover. We took pictures in various different places around the school and took pictures of us doing school things like reading, learning, lessons and socialising, we worked as a team and positioned ourselves around the camera and the camera angles. we used mainly head shots, mid shots and over the shoulder shots so we could still see the environment we are in.

For my real front cover, I will take a picture of either a group of students in a classroom doing practical work e.g. science experiments or one student doing revision in a library because it shows that you can still enjoy your self while learning and being at school, and also the reality of school. I will also be thinking of different camera angles and also lighting so I can get the perfect photo.

My Mock school&Music magazine covers

For the first magazine I used a close up of a school boy and placed him in the middle looking at the camera which shows this magazine is aimed at the person reading it and also that its about school as he is in uniform. I placed my masthead at the top of the front cover so it stands out to the reader,I put a plug in the top left hand corner to grasp the readers attention and to show them something fun that is in the magazine, I but my subheadings in the centred left to show what is in my magazine and finally at the bottom i put a banner to show more things that will be featured in my school magazine. The second school magazine i used a picture of a teacher teaching two students looking happy which shows its a school magazine but that its happy and has a good vibe, I placed the masthead at the top so it stands out with a subheading above it to grasp the readers attention, I Placed at the bottom left hand corner 3 pictures of prom with a subheading to get the reader interested and to make my magazine look even more interesting. For my school contents page I kept with the theme of red, white and black to make it stick with the school colours and my masthead colours so it stands out, I put on the right hand side what is featured in the school magazine with numbers so the reader can clearly see what they want to read and get to the page easily, On the left hand side I put some pictures that go with whats featured in the school magazine to give the readers a visual representation of what the features are going to be about.
