Why i chose media

I chose media A Level because I will gain a different perspective of the outside and online world whilst gaining new skills such as being able to write essays and use new equipment that I haven’t used before. I already find the media very interesting due to it encompasses daily lives with social media becoming a huge thing.
Skills I think I will gain is being able to analyse and determine what the media is trying to sell and advertise to us. I will have a different perspective to others who have no interest in the media and just see adverts as what they are instead of what is trying to be promoted; or when they read a magazine they don’t realise colours are used for a reason. It will help me in the future if working in the media (preferably in a fashion magazine), I will know the best techniques to promote what to get across to my audience.

Overall, I have very large interest in the media. From social media, reading magazines and watching entertainment such as Netflix and the news. As a generation we have become heavily captivated by the control of the media. It’s the norm; we can’t go a day without it. We could say the media is like the pied piper and we are the rats that follow to its every trap and move. Although the media has bought positive impacts into our lives, it also has negative aspects. For example; they can lie to manipulate and control people into believing in things that are hoaxes, deterring people away from their own views. Moreover, the media prepares a base for conspiracy theories to grow and almost scare people into believing what the media has falsely created, as the media is usually shown worldwide millions of different views can be added, twisting the information the media has created like it wants it to. However, I am happy that we have the media because I cannot imagine my life now without it.

Using media on a daily basis, I am able to interact with others through with using modern technology such as mobile phones, laptops and tablets. This can be done by contacting my friends and family using text messaging, or posting things to a larger audience on social media. My favourite social media platforms are Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat because it allows me to see things that my friends post as well as people in the public eye that I am interested in. We also see it through tv screens and when we are walking through the street, we are surrounded by the media which brings so much money globally now. Another media I use regularly are reading magazines, whenever I go into Topshop or HMV I always grab the free copy of NME Magazine because music is a large part of my life I couldn’t turn down a free source of music information. Most months I purchase Vogue magazine because fashion is another large part of my life and I like to keep up with trends and love seeing high end designer clothing.

In conclusion, by taking media studies I will not only gain new skills but I will become more creative and it will bring a new outlook on how I see things.
